October 12, 2022 – Flesh and Blood

The fleshy things of life reveal
The inner battles we hope to conceal;
Failures, longings, lusts a-flowing,
Faith is all that keeps us going.

As such I come for what is promised
The yeast of life that sends Jesus among-us;
Baked as bread for us to share,
The body they stripped naked and bare.

From the seed comes branch and vine
Grapes picked at just the right time
An elixir of life that is more than a sign:
Blessed to give new life through wine.

Eat my flesh, Drink my blood
Repulsed — so many choose other food;
Blind to faith they dare not see
His flesh and blood make us progeny.

For His flesh is body corporeal
Not spirit but sinew and bone we feel;
His blood is life that flows within,
Forgives our multitude of sins.

Flesh and Blood become bread and wine
Together they are gifts divine;
They come to us as earthly goods,
Jesus feeds us Eternal Food!
