November 4, 2016 – 50 Days Until My Head Explodes, Or Devotions to Prepare Us For Christ’s Coming

I sure wish I could read what “I’ll do….” Behind Santa’s legs, but apparently everyone who lives in the community doesn’t care – “Godzilla Santa Has Come to Town”. It seems to me that parents in town might be a little concerned that their children aren’t sleeping at night because they are afraid “Godzilla Santa” may get up and not only crush the car in their driveway, he may also crush the fire truck, the milk truck, and whatever truck that is sitting at Santa’s feet. Now, I am no doctor, but doesn’t it look like Santa better get to the hospital soon to take care of the cellulitis in his legs? I guess that is what happens when you ride in a sleigh too long.
I would love to know when this picture was taken, but no matter, Santa must have cost Mr. or Mrs. Porter a pretty penny. I hope the sales generated by “Godzilla Santa” outweigh the nightmares children of the town will have for years to come. I wonder how the community would react if this same business would spend the money to put a “larger than life” baby Jesus on the premises? Seeing that this picture was taken circa the 1950’s, I imagine no one would have dared to complain. Today, however, there would be an uproar on social media and the regular media on the audacity of Christians for forcing their religion on others. Forget about freedom of religion, we only have “freedom” of anything in this country as long as it doesn’t offend someone else – at least that is how it feels lately. I would say that I am surprised that communities still put up a community Christmas tree in the square, but as we learned in the devotion yesterday, the Christmas tree is a secular tradition as well as a religious symbol.
How will you and your family celebrate Christmas this year? I was surprised the other year when I found myself driving by an inflatable manger scene. Usually the only inflatable decorations you find are of snowmen, elves, candy canes, or Santas. I know there will be very few businesses that will offer us anything to do with Jesus, but does that mean we shouldn’t either? Christmas has “Christ” in the name – but let’s not leave it at that. Let’s keep Christ in the season, and in our lives, all year long.
