My Own Sanctuary – Rev. David J. Schreffler

When my room seemed larger,
And the world appeared harder;
It is as if I was placed
Or rather beamed into this space.

I could not get along,
With so many other’s songs;
Their melody was sweet,
Mine just felt so incomplete.

I learned to find happiness
In the little and the less.
I kept my circle small in size
To escape staring, critical eyes.

My backyard — wide and airy,
Was my personal sanctuary;
In it I found the chance,
For quiet and acceptance.

I miss those days of peace,
Long lived – yet all must cease;
But I have found a place for me,
Within my spiritual family.

I know Life never needs to be,
A mere lonely, empty journey;
When you come to know G*d’s love,
True life will flow down from above
